WYP2016 Speaker Spotlight

Each year, I like to show the other side of the awesome speaker lineup for the Work Your Package Conference. What better way to get to know your speakers than to ask them questions that you might ask if you had an opportunity to sit down had a cup of coffee with them.

First up in the WYP2016 Speaker Spotlight Series is Kemetia Foley aka The Social Media Whisper (my nickname for her).

Kemetia Foley

How did your earlier career choices lead you to where you are now?

I gave too much weight to the career suggestions of others when I graduated college. “All the jobs are in retail.” So I went straight into retail (which I hated), instead of going into the career I knew I wanted and loved. Now when I make any choice, I make sure my heart is IN it!

What career mistake has given you the biggest lesson?

Not addressing personality clashes and work expectations directly with a supervisor face-to-face as soon as I became aware of issues with them. I tried to avoid the problems and the supervisor! HUGE mistake. I was not mature enough to sit down face-to-face with this person until the damage was done.

What is the biggest risk that you’ve taken?

Personally- Getting married a second time! Ha ha! Wait, no. Letting my daughter take my car to prom.

Professionally- Putting myself in debt to get to an overseas conference so I could network with the conference producer because I wanted to speak at that conference!

What is the biggest challenge to achieving success?

The biggest challenge is knowing that defining success is a purely subjective matter. There’s no one perfect recipe or definition. Defining and measuring my own success is what truly matters.  Stop comparing. Easier said than done, but it’s true.

Who are you without your accolades?

  • Coffee addict
  • Laundry Goddess
  • Writer of gratitude lists
  • Mom to a kind, beautiful and smart daughter.
  • Lover of great marching bands and proud (former high school) band geek—Remember the Titans!
  • Closeted comedian
  • Tenacious believer in the saying, ‘Get Busy Livin’ or Get Busy Dyin’
  • Shower singer
  • DJ wannabe
  • Cat-lover
  • Karma believer
  • Tell-it-like-it-is person
