How did your earlier career choices lead you to where you are now?
I remained extremely focused on my next step and every position that I accepted was intentional. I did not apply or entertain positions that were not aligned with my goals. I also selected positions that had high visibility in the organizations. I believe that moving with intent helped to get me to the level that I am at today!
What career mistake has given you the biggest lesson?
The biggest mistake that I have made is hiring people based on their potential opposed to their actual ability. This caused me to have to work harder as my position and responsibilities increased over the years. The lesson that I learned was to hire based on what I need opposed to what I think I can help a person become.
What is the biggest risk that you’ve taken?
The biggest risk that I took was to relocate my family from Ohio to Florida as a single mom.
What is the biggest challenge to achieving success?
The biggest challenge to achieving success is prioritizing what is important and staying true to that prioritization.
Who are you without your accolades?
Accolades have never really shaped me. I understand that people will praise you one day and destroy you another day. If who I am is linked to my accolades, I put my identity up for grabs every day.
