Malica Fleming

Malica Fleming is a Queens, NY native, founder & Blogger-in-Chief (B.I.C) of Finer Women Rising, a popular lifestyle blog launched in March 2014 that inspires women of Zeta Phi Beta to live finer lives every single day. The blog fuses her passion for sisterhood with a love for web design, style and blogging – culminating in a digital platform that provides immense value to the women it serves.

By trade, Malica is a User Experience Designer & Consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton. She has over 20 years of experience in web design but surprisingly design wasn’t initially on her radar in college.  At the University of Virginia, she studied Economics with plans to work on Wall Street, but God had other ideas in mind. After teaching herself HTML as a hobby, Malica fell in love with web design and was blessed to obtain a design internship immediately after graduation – the rest is history.

After attending the Blogalicious conference last year, Malica decided to share her passion for blogging and founded a meetup for aspiring female bloggers called the Capital Area Blogging Divas. The goal of the meetup is to help females in the DC area become kick-ass digital influencers through blogging. During the meetup, members learn about all aspects of blogging including content creation, building an audience, blog promotion and monetization. The meetup convenes once a month in Laurel, MD and has grown from 2 members at inception to more than 60.

Malica currently resides in Laurel, MD with her husband Christopher and two sons, one of whom is on the autism spectrum.  In addition to her roles as a wife, mother and Autism advocate, she serves as a mentor to young women at Bernadette’s House, a non-profit in Laurel, MD dedicated to building high self-esteem and confidence in girls.
